The  Volvo  XC90 is a luxury SUV that rivals models such as the  Audi Q7 ,  Porsche Cayenne and  Range Rover Sport . Volvo  has created a refreshing SUV by using Scandinavian design influences, and it feels like a premium product that delivers design-led looks and a raft of advanced safety kit.

The XC90 boasts a distinctive exterior and plenty of equipment, and delivers a far more upmarket package than its practical but ageing predecessor. Add the advanced fuel efficiency and safety technologies, and you have a class-leading SUV on your hands.

The XC90 is a great performer on the road, and with seven proper seats as standard plus a big boot, it's a strong candidate for family car buyers. Underpinning the Volvo XC90’s fresh-thinking approach is a bold strategy to offer only 2.0-litre four-cylinder engines, a compromise that will inspire some drivers, but may deter the those attracted to the lazy grunt of a traditional six or eight-cylinder SUV.

18-inch alloy wheels and heated front seats are now standard on the 2016 Volvo XC70 . The 300-hp turbo I-6 has been discontinued while the 3.2 AWD trim has been replaced by the T5 AWD variant.

Essentially a raised wagon, the 2016 Volvo XC70 is a two-row crossover available in front- and all-wheel-drive configurations. A replacement, rumored to be called the V90, will be revealed sometime in late 2015 and early 2016 alongside the successor to the S80 midsize luxury sedan, which is the car that the XC70 is based on.

Front drive XC70s are powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged I-4 rated at 240 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque while all-wheel-drive-equipped variants utilize a 2.5-liter turbocharged I-5 with 250 hp and 266 lb-ft. An eight-speed automatic is the only gearbox available on front-drive XC70s while all-wheel-drive models are equipped with a six-speed unit. Fuel economy is class competitive, with front drive models achieving up to 23/31 mpg city/highway. Opting for the all-wheel-drive XC70 drops those numbers down to 19/26 mpg.
